UPCOMING CHANGES
In the near future we will be moving our market pick-ups from the cafe area inside the Habitat back into the Kinship garden area at the rear of the Habitat for Humanity. This week nothing is changed but look towards this shift over the next couple of weeks we will have signs and emails letting you know when we do shift. We are in need of supplies and will be putting a comprehensive wishlist in the near future. The short list right now is:

  • Tarps (any size)
  • Tents – preferably 10ftx10ft or larger.
  • Chest Freezer
  • Paint – We will be painting our logo on the trailer. less then 1 gallon (blue, yellow, green, purple, red)
  • Plastic bins for orders
  • Shelving of any sort
  • Nursery gear: Used pots, Seed trays, labels, seeds, seed starting gear of any sort.
We feel this shift will be good overall as people will directly see where the food is growing, we will have a mobile refrigerated trailer with more room, we will have to set-up some shaded areas and social area that will be our own area. If you would like to assist us in the changes we are going to be working on Friday 9am-Noon at the Habitat for Humanity this week. Together we can keep growing our co-op and get ready for the next big season this fall when lots of fresh veggies will be more available due to season changes. All hands on deck, many hands makes light work! Aug. 10th we have another permablitz set-up, Aug. 24th a big seed starting party for the Kinship Garden is going on as well. Get involved and help the co-op grow together we can transform the West Pasco area and beyond by showing how cooperative we all can be pitching in to make a difference and a new local economy of fresh local healthy food.

4131 Madison Street
Permablitz (noun): An informal gathering involving a day on which a group of two or more people come together to achieve the following:

  • create or add to edible gardens where someone lives
  • share skills related to permaculture, the development of agricultural ecosystems intended to be sustainable and self-sufficient, and other sustainable living ideas
  • build community networks
  • have fun
Permablitzes are free events, open to the public, where you learn a lot, share food, get some exercise and have a wonderful time.
If you come to three or more permablitzes we can help organize one at your house. That’s right. Permablitz is based on reciprocal volunteer support. Once you’ve been to a few we will help connect you to a volunteer or professional permaculture designer, help you plan your blitz, promote it, and co-ordinate it on your day. For free.
In addition to having a Permablitz, we will be celebrating our work with a Potluck, so bring something delicious! To keep it a green event please try to remember to bring your own utensils as well!! See you soon!!!

We want to show the city how together we can cooperate to transform the landscapes into edible landscapes that we can cooperatively work and benefit from lower of crime, production of local food, and a renewal of community civic spirit and pride in New Port Richey. Lettuce have peace!

Scientific studies show that crime decreases in neighborhoods as the amount of green space increases and that vegetation has been seen to alleviate mental fatigue, one of the precursors to violent behavior (Kuo and Sullivan, 2001). • Community gardening is recognized by many police departments as an effective community crime prevention strategy. “In Philadelphia, burglaries and thefts in one precinct dropped by 90 percent after police helped residents clean up vacant lots and plant gardens” (“Healing America’s cities” p. 5-6, as cited in Englander, 2001).
